Are you better receiving the Australian Baby Bonus or do you get a better financial result with the Paid Parental Scheme. It can be complicated, see below for details.
How is the Baby Bonus paid?
The baby bonus will be cut from $5400 to $5000 from September 2012, and frozen at that level for a further three years, until then the
Baby Bonus is paid per eligible child in 13 fortnightly instalments. From 1 July 2011, customers eligible to receive Baby Bonus will get a higher first instalment of $879.77 and 12 fortnightly instalments of approximately $379.77. The higher first instalment of Baby Bonus will assist with the upfront costs of having a new child.

Australian Husband / Cambodian Wife etc
I am trying to get the black and white on whether I can claim the bonus so I hope someone can help. I will try to give you all the info you need;
Legally married for a year with all appropriate paperwork
Father ; Australian Citizen by birth
Mother ; Cambodian Citizen by birth
Daughter ; Born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and now Australian Citizen by descent.
Father's time out of Australia ; 20 months. Still owns a house in Australia, has bank accounts ,a tax file number etc etc.Mother has never been to Australia and does not have tax file number etc. We will visit next year sometime and wife will enter on spouse visa ( yet to be obtained ).
Can I ( as father who meets all criteria) claim the bonus on our behalf ?
What is the best way to do it ? ( I have tried on-line but there are some silly ??s which prevent progressing through the on-line application process ). Should I make a hard copy application ? Any special documents I need ?
Thanks in advance
