Nappies - cloth or disposal

Choice did a survey and according to one of their studies disposable nappy usuage is up from 40% to over 95%. From an environmental impact side there is a disposable brand of nappy that have the ability to breakdown (i.e. 70% of the nappy) in as little as 12 weeks. However there are still a lot of disposable nappies out on the market that can take 100's of years. I haven't had any first hand experience re baby use, however my friends tell me that their babys sleep and stay drier at night wearing disposables.
i have found that disposible nappies are the way to go.. theyseem to be alot easier
yes, admittly they will cost a bit over time and you could have that slight possibilty of running out and having to run down to the shop. but if u keep an eye on how many you have it will be sweet, my daughter seems alot happier in the disposible, so all her cloth nappies are now spew rags lol
Thanks for the tip. I have heard thats the way to go so I better start saving. As much as I would like to be environmentally friendly, I would prefer to ensure my baby sleeps soundly at night and keeps dry. Will give it ago anyway. thanks
Huggies for example, at Coles the normal price is $42, whereas at Big W the normal price is $37. Big W do specials basically every couple of weeks where they are discounted to $30 which is a big savings.! Also remember that you can layby nappies.!
I have friends that use cloth, some just use them at home and disposables out and others cloth 100% of the time. It is up to you and what you can cope with. I don't think I could cope with keeping up with the washing, I already do 2 loads a day and if I added nappies on top of that I wouldn't get anything else done. But that is me.
I really think this is such a personal decision and I really don't see any wrong or right way to do it.
Good luck.
They are just as easy as using disposables, no soaking, pins, pilchers, covers etc... you just need to wash them as you do clothes
Environmentally they use less resources, even water AFTER you factor in the washing of them!
And for baby's health - well with all the research linking infertility to disposable use on baby boys, I wouldn't use anything else.
My baby has always been happy in modern cloth nappies, sleeps all night and NO rashes - EVER.
They are also very cute, you can get all different prints and patterns and stuff.
Hope that helps
Thanks for the feedback.

What age can you use them up to?
My son is 18months.
I am hoping to start toilet training him when he is 2.
Thanks.
